Hearing of Commissioner-designate Mairead McGuinness
The Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee will hold its hearing of Mairead McGuinness2, Commissioner-designate for financial services and stability, on Friday 09.00-12.00.
MEPs will sound out Ms McGuinness regarding her strategy for rolling out the capital markets union, one of the Commission’s flagship projects, as well as her priorities on the different rules in the pipeline concerning financial services and financial stability.
After the hearing, Ms McGuinness will give a statement to the press on the ground floor (near the protocol entrance) of the European Parliament’s SPAAK building.
Ms McGuinness has served as an MEP since 2004 and has been Parliament Vice-President since 2014.
After the evaluations are completed, Parliament is set to vote on the decision in plenary on 7 October.
The reshuffle at the Commission comes after Trade Commissioner Phil Hogan3 resigned at the end of August.

- 2.Mairead McGuinness (1959) is Commissioner on behalf of Ireland in the Commission-Von der Leyen since October 12th 2020. She is responsible for financial stability, financial services and the capital markets union. McGuinnees served as member of the European Parliament from 2004-2020 as a member of the christian democrats.
- 3.Phil Hogan (1960) is the European Commissioner for agriculture and rural development in the Juncker Commission on behalf o Ireland. Hogan is a member of the Fine Gael which is aligned with the European People's Party. Prior to hios tenure at Commission Hogan had become a fixture in Irish national politics.
