Europe at work - The results of the Danish Presidency - Main contents
After six months as President of the Council, the Danish Government has today released a publication of the facts and results of the Presidency.
The Danish Presidency took place at a difficult time in the EU’s history, which is why Denmark had two main ambitions for the presidency: To act as a professional, open and collaborative facilitator and to demonstrate that European cooperation - despite the crisis - is able to deliver concrete results, which are to the benefit of European citizens and which will help generate new growth and employment.
The Presidency - in close cooperation with European partners - delivered a series of results within the four priority areas: Responsible, Dynamic, Green and Safe Europe. At the same time, the Presidency has been both sustainable and cost effective.
Minister for European Affairs Nicolai Wammen says:
"We have implemented a "tap water presidency" without grand gestures, but with lots of elbow grease and hard work in cooperation with everyone. And that's what it takes to get Europe at work as there are no simple, miraculous solutions to Europe's current crisis. The Danish Presidency has showed that the EU continues to function and can achieve new results and create new jobs despite a difficult time of crisis. We have among others proved this by achieving about 250 concrete results that you can now read about in this publication. These are concrete results, which will help pull Europe in the right direction and out of the crisis."
