Senegalese broers uitgezet door Zweden: vragen aan Europese Commissie - Hoofdinhoud

De twee Senegalese broers die na een bezoek aan hun vader in Nederland op 24 juli in Zweden werden vastgezet door de grenspolitie, zijn gisteren uitgezet naar Senegal. Naar aanleiding van deze actie stelt Sophie in 't Veld schriftelijke vragen aan de Europese Commissie:

On 24 July, the Swedish border police took two Senegalese tourists out of a bus entering the country, put them in detention, and threatened with deportation. The arrest appears to be ethnic profiling in which stereotypes affected the Swedish border police's judgement of the credibility of the two men's statements that they were tourists and not irregular migrants. The men, who had visited their family in the Netherlands and were on their way to Sweden to visit another relative, possessed valid Schengen visas. No adequate translation was provided during the procedure, which is a violation of the right to a fair trial. On 25 September, they were handcuffed and deported to Senegal.

The Swedish police and border authorities remain unclear about the reasons behind the detention and the deportation.

  Does the Commission agree that Sweden has breached EU law by putting these men in detention and deporting them, while they had valid Schengen visas issued by the Dutch authorities and clearly did not have any criminal intentions?
