ALDE MEPs question French mass surveillance law - Hoofdinhoud
ALDE MEPs Sophie in 't Veld, Cécilia Wikström and Nathalie Griesbeck question the French mass surveillance law and have sent First Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans a letter in which they ask him to scrutinize this law.
In 2015 ALDE MEPs asked the European Commission whether the then draft law on mass surveillance complied with EU standards. The Commission stated the law seemed indeed to raise concerns, but it would not formally investigate until the law had actually been adopted. The ALDE MEPs point out that the law is in force today, so that the Commission should now formally state its opinion. If the Commission finds the mass surveillance law at fault with EU laws, the French government should revoke or adapt the law.
