Today, Sophie in 't Veld, together with her ALDE colleagues Guy Verhofstadt, Cecilia Wikström and Louis Michel sent a letter to the vice-president of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans, about his recent blog post. In this post Timmermans expressed his concern about the recent initiatives by Hungarian president Victor Orbán, such as his call to re-open the debate on the death penalty and the public consultation on migration, on which In 't Veld also asked for clarification via written parliamentary questions.

In the letter the ALDE MEPs ask the vice-president of the Commission, in charge of upholding the Charter Fundamental Rights, if he also intends to take formal steps and if not how his blog posts relates to the official Commission position.
