Blog: Transmission System Operators of Spain, France and Portugal signed a common strategy paper - Hoofdinhoud
Today the Transmission System Operators of Spain, France and Portugal signed a common strategy paper for the development of interconnection of the Iberian Peninsula with the internal electricity market.
The common strategy paper lists common goals and indicates which options for projects can increase the current interconnection capacity. This strategy will be fundamental to reach the minimum interconnection level of 10% agreed by the European Council last October.
Energy and climate action Commissioner, Miguel Arias Cañete, welcomed the signing of the common strategy saying "this is an important first step towards ending the isolation of the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of the internal electricity market. Only a fully interconnected market will allow consumers reliability at best possible prices and electricity that can be sourced in the environmentally soundest way possible. I am very happy that this common strategy will now be deployed and assure you that the Commission will continue to offer its support, where needed."
The Vice-President for the Energy Union, Maroš Šefčovič, stated that "energy interconnections are vital to build an Energy Union with a forward looking climate change policy. We will continue working and delivering on this fundamental project by President Jean-Claude Juncker."
