Europese leiders steunen 'Connecting Europe Facility' (en)

Good to see that today’s European Council has explicitly supported the Connecting Europe Facility, including for digital technologies and infrastructure.

And that makes sense - because those national leaders also support measures to boost growth and build a digital single market, and you can’t do that without fast broadband infrastructure, and high-quality online services.

It’s clear that final, overall discussions on the EU budget framework need to take place in the round, which the European Council will devote itself to in November.

But today’s announcement is a very positive signal; one which I hope will translate into concrete action to unlock this essential investment.

Plus it’s good to see support for EU research and innovation, another engine of growth (and echoing the calls that the EU has been making to specific member states about the need for this investment). As well as on many other areas important to getting every European digital: like copyright, collective rights management, e-signatures, and cutting the cost of broadband).
