Amerikaanse pers over Job Cohen en de kans op terugkeer naar tolerantie - Hoofdinhoud

Diverse gezaghebbende internationale media berichtten de afgelopen week over Job Cohen. The New York Times pakte afgelopen weekend uit met een zes pagina’s lange profielschets van Cohen.

De Amerikaanse krant noemt Job Cohen:

…the man responsible for the recent shake-up of Dutch politics, who is making some people in Europe begin to wonder whether he represents a way for mainstream parties on the Continent to successfully combat the swelling tide of populist, anti-immigrant voices.

Vertaling: Job Cohen is “de man die verantwoordelijk is voor de recentelijke ommezwaai in de Nederlandse politiek, die sommige Europeanen zich doet afvragen of hij een een wijze vertegenwoordigt waarop traditionele politieke partijen de oprukkende populistische, anti-immigratie-stromingen succesvol kunnen bevechten.”

Een paar dagen later publiceerde The Washington Post het artikel “Ex-mayor offers Dutch voters return to tolerance“.

Cohen’s old-school Dutch values of tolerance are fighting a tide of anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim sentiment sweeping not only the Netherlands but much of Europe.
