Book presentation 'Lost Consensus: Europe in the Dutch parliamentary-political debate, 1945-2012'

Verloren consensus

The relationship between the European Union and the Netherlands can be characterized by three words: "rise, shine and sink-in", however the 'shining' has hardly occured. This is evident from the book 'Lost Consensus Europe in Dutch parliamentary political debate, 1945-2012'. The book focuses on the debate in Dutch politics concerning European integration since World War II. A main focus lies on the developments of political parties' positions through time in relation to the existence of fractures - or continuity - in the Dutch attitude towards Europe. The research shows how the rising European bureaucracy was welcomed with both positive and negative connotations in the national political debate.
